I know here in Rhode Island its illegal to leave any child under 11 unattended for any length of time. They can't babysit younger children until age 12. I feel that these are very reasonable rules. Your daughter may be mature and trustworthy enough, but most kids aren't ready to be on their own yet at 8 or 9.
