As it stands:
- Boundaries change as follows (apologies if I miss anyone, this is off the top of my head):
1. LAH mostly moves from Covington to BP, which still doesn't have adequate attendance upon opening, nor is it projected to grow into having adequate attendance. Hm.
2. Yerba Santa Triangle leaves Santa Rita for BP.
3. The Crossings leaves SR for Covington.
4. 49 Showers leaves Almond for Covington.
5. Hollingsworth to Gilmore leaves Almond for Springer - which is gaining attendance from some new developments as well.
6. Parma Way on South leaves Springer for Covington.
7. Loyola and Oak are essentially unchanged. - BCS is sitting in portables on the Egan Middle School site.
- $11 million is allocated to rennovations to BP that I suspect cannot be REallocated due to the cash-out refinance method of obtaining that amount. I believe it remains "legal" so long as it is used for what the original bond measure was intended for.
- The most dense areas in the district remain in the North end. BCS is sitting on a fully up to code school site in the North. The least dense area has a school site that is not being used currently, but is opening to a declining enrollment projection.
Okay, with that, check out the fixlasd website, which proposes a ballot measure to move BCS to BP, and to use the Egan Camp Site for a third LASD school for the North end of the district. This would relieve overcrowding at SR and at Almond, and would allow, essentially, the rest of the district to STAY WHERE THEY ARE!
With that, it should also be posited further to explore such options as a K-5, 6-8 grade plan, which would relieve crowding at these schools as well. But the board remains resistant to these options, and we have to figure out WHY...
As I said before, Mr. Mark Goines has sounded interested in thinking out of the box in this way in the past - and I believe he may actually be an advocate for looking into other options. But we are running out of time.
I don't expect replies here - I asked for interest on this blog once before, and heard crickets chirping. However, that time we didn't have a course of action. So if this makes sense to anyone (and I would encourage looking over the fixlasd site), feel free to contact me here, or via the fixlasd site (I believe I've been added as the contact person there).
