So, I may have or may have NOT mentioned that I'm the Hot Lunch
Coordinator at Phoebe's school. I work with the vendors, place the
orders, make the menus etc etc.
I've had two days where vendors just did NOT SHOW UP this year,
I had one rainy day where volunteers gave lunches to kids who said
they should get them without checking the master list, and ending up
short, so that first graders just didn't get fed (and they never called me).
I've over ordered on field trip days, because it wasn't on our calendar,
or it came up after I checked it and planned, and now I just under-ordered
because of ANOTHER field trip that it turns out was back by lunch.
Crap. This job SUCKS. It's a volunteer position, and I'm responsible
for making sure kids GET FED. I get a decent amount of grief for a
volunteer job. Some of it is certainly earned grief, like not ordering enough
food (which was today), but some is not (like parents calling and tearing
into me because they missed the deadline to order, and we won't take
their order for their kids).
I HATE it. I'm terrible at it. I hate it with the biggest passion that I've ever
hated a job. And I'm stuck in it until the end of the year. Is it the end of the
year yet???

This morning Chloe was on my lap and looked at me and says "when the bad guys trapped Kikiyo it was very dangerous to scooter at Megans house".
Now she just said to me "Shippo is not part of the alphabet, Shippo is from Inu-Yasha" For what it's worth, Kikiyo is also from Inu Yasha, an anime series that they have been working their way through, thanks to Netflix. Megan is Phoebe's best school friend. Saturday, February 23

For those who believe in the story of the resurrection of Christ, this is fitting.
Reece's Rainbow is doing an Easter fundraising, trying to help orphaned children with Down's Syndrome and concurrent morbidities, get adopted. They are referring to it as the "Gift of Life". These children are at risk of being institutionalized if they don't find homes.

I'm losing respect for Hillary Clinton, I'm afraid. Total bummer... the negative campaigning has even effected me.
Go figure, Obama's winning anyway. Friday, February 22

I was sitting in Stats while we practiced hand calculations for ANOVA testing (ANalysis Of VAriance), and I'd worked ahead enough in my notes that I took the four equations that made up the process of obtaining statistical significance (or not), and made them into one equation. What I came up with was the following where k=number of groups, n=number within the group, s2 is the variance, s is the standard deviation, and meanG is the grand mean:
F= n1(ntot-k)(mean1-meanG)2+n2(ntot-k)(mean2-meanG)2+...nk(ntot-k)(meank-meanG)2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (k-1)(n1-1)s12+(k-1)(n2-1)s22+...(k-1)(nk-1)sk2 AND, of course calculated the darned thing out, and came up with the correct F value... only to realize that I needed some of those intermediate calculations later on to make the whole analysis valid. I really am SUCH a dork. |
