Lupron... I'm going on it as of tomorrow.
With that, I'm still nursing a little one 1-2 times per day.
From what I can find, this is fine - the biggest issue is that my milk might dry up from the Lupron and she might stop nursing. I have to say that would be fine as well... she's 2.5, which is very different from any type of exclusive breastfeeding type circumstance where you wouldn't want to dry up.
This was the age where my other two self weaned, which is what I'd like Chloe to do. So maybe this will help, actually. :-)

Hi there! I came across your blog while trying to find info on Lupron and breastfeeding. I'm curious, if you don't mind sharing -- did your milk dry up? (I want to do a frozen embryo transfer this year but my little one still nurses and I would have to take Lupron. I don't think he's ready to wean..).

Hi,
I didn't notice my supply dropped considerably, but my daughter was only nursing twice a day, and has since dropped to once a day (so it may have... or she may just be naturally cutting back). I know another woman who went on Lupron while nursing a one year old, and she says that her daughter is still nursing quite a lot and shows no signs of weaning. I'm sure everyone will be different, but there are two anecdotes for you. :-) Re: Re: Re: Lupron and breastfeeding

Hi! I was wondering if you were concerned about what might "leak" out of your milk while taking Lupron. I am starting on Saturday, and my 18 month old is not quite ready to be weaned yet. She nurses sporadically, but I am quite worried about the milk since I have not been successful at finding good information about lupron and breast milk. Can you point me to any specific reading materials?
Thanks! Aura Re: Lupron and breastfeeding

I am a midwife and also an IVF patient. I am still nursing my 2 year old (successful IVF 1st try after 6 failed IUI's and years of infertility meds...), only 2 times per day, but am about to embark on a FET cycle in one week. My doc can't seem to answer my detailed questions about Lupron Depot use and continued breastfeeding.
My own research seems to lead to the same final information: animal studies show that Lupron is NOT bioavailable through the oral route (the same way a nursing babe would receive the med). Studies show that the med should be avoided during pregnancy due to risk of fetal anomalies, but breastfeeding studies show no reported risks. Nonetheless, most docs are hesitant to tell you it's ok to take it and continue nursing, because they don't want to be responsible for potential poor outcomes. I am still on the fence, not sure if we will wean in the next week, but I know for sure that my son is NOT ready! He nurses so little, that I will probably continue nursing despite starting the Lupron. I just can't seem to find any convincing medical or pharmacological evidence that says I should stop. Nervous but hopeful... Re: Re: Lupron and breastfeeding
