And yet, Fisher-Price still isn't making her... They've made some pretty random characters from Avatar, the Last Airbender, all the way down to "Fire Nation Soldier", and yet the female lead still isn't represented.

Intellectually I know it's silly to be offended by such a silly oversight. However, in all honesty, it's sending a message about what value Mattel/Fisher-Price places on my little girls. In fact, they state it blatantly in their product description:
The Avatar Basic Figure Assortment brings the key Avatar characters to life and allows boys to enter into the fantasy world of the Avatar. The characters in the assortment range in height from 5.25" to 6.0" and feature a high degree of articulation, vital accessories, and included weaponry.
What message does THAT send to all the little girls in America? That Mattel/Fisher-Price doesn't want their business?

Thank you Kelly for showing me this little vignette on the medicalization of childbirth

Who else but Monty Python would be SO completely accurate while being so completely wacky?

The Pork Board has not only issued an apology to The Lactivist, they are raising money to support The Mother's Milk Bank of Ohio.

Ahhh, the power of negative publicity and the ability to do the right thing!

I'm feeling a little like Alice venturing into Wonderland. The Pork Board is suing a blogger who happens to sell tshirts on the side that are pro-breastfeeding. One of her tshirts says "The other white milk". You can read the whole story on Jen's Lactivist Weblog, including the cease and desist letter but my favourite quote is as follows
In addition, your use of this slogan also tarnishes the good reputation of the National Pork Board's mark in light of your apparent attempt to promote the use of breastmilk beyond merely for infant consumption, such as with the following slogans on your website in close proximity to the slogan "The Other White Milk." "Dairy Diva," "Nursing, Nature's Own Breast Enhancement," "Eat at Mom's, fast-fresh-from the breast," and "My Milk is the Breast."
Wow, do they really believe themselves? That she's promoting an adult breastfeeding fetish??? The mind boggles...

Oh, and the jokes?!? Hmmm, Capitalist Pigs? Chauvinist Pigs? Eh, I'll stick with just Big Pigs.
