View Article  More BCS stuff, notes from the LASD Board Meeting
Notes from the LASD Board meeting of Wednesday, December 12th.

Thanks to my neighbor Tanya for going and passing along the following:

1. The traffic analysis done by Tom Ho looked only at Los Altos residents. It completely ignored the impact of the 100+ kids coming from Mountain View to Covington next year. They stated that the impact was something along the lines of negligible. Never mind that the intersections along El Monte at Cuesta, Covington, and Foothill are minor disasters already.

2. LASD Board of Trustees is going to expend more energy with their vendetta with Bullis Charter School - they elected to sue the County School Board over their decision to allow preferential admission of LAH residents. Money and time that could be spent elsewhere.

3. The minutes of the previous meeting showed that the board has asked the city of Mountain View to look into land adequate to handle a school North of El Camino. This is timely with the Home Depot falling out of favor with the board to take over the Sears site.
View Article  Student Study Team for Learning Disability
I was talking to another mom from Phoebe's school while at the gym today. She's been through the Student Study Team meeting, and was giving me some insight into what to expect. Looks like I need to do some pre-work (not that the school told me this). I need to get a sense of the chronology of events starting with last year. So I'll go up and buzz through my e-mail to find any correspondence we were having. I wish I still had Phoebe's homework notebook from last year - as her teacher and I did a bunch of corresponding that way as well.

I am also getting the impression that I really SHOULD save ALL of these papers/books/etc where things are apparent. We have so little space here that we usually look over her work, it looks good, we recycle... saving special assignments. I am pretty green at this process.

I'm going to look over some literature that links Learning Disabilities with Phoebe's amblyopia/strabismus this weekend. There is a lot more I couldn't get my hands on, but this is a good start.

Oh, and further, this mom did reinforce my perception that the school district will do as little as they can get away with. Great.
