My last baby is leaving babyhood. I'm so ready for this, but it's certainly bittersweet. It'll be awesome to move on to the next phase of things, but I'll miss the baby smells, the snuggly lump, I know I'll never again experience the high of childbirth, nurse a newborn, take pride in her first rolling over, or crawls, or giggle over the funny faces that first foods elicit.

Despite all that I'm loving the first words, the goofy baby tricks (clapping hands, blowing kisses, and the like), the slobbery kisses, the laughing, and her energy. She's inquisitive, and funny. Her personality is bursting out right now, and I'm enjoying getting to KNOW her.

I'm shocked at the growth in all my girls this last year. Piper has come out of toddlerdom, and is now rapidly approaching four, with all IT's fury. But she's fun, and spunky and inquisitive, and imaginative, one just has to get past her short fuse, and her screaming and throwing to see that. More importantly, SHE has to get past her screaming and throwing. She has expressed to me that she "wish to be (me), for not be in trouble when angry". In other words, she wants to not get put in timeouts when she has outbursts. So she recognizes the problems with her outbursts, which is a pretty big thing to do for such a little girl.

Phoebe has become a real schoolgirl, not just a timid little kindergartner. She's cool, and in control. She knows how to push everyone's buttons, but she also knows how to be sweet, and caring. She's becoming sentimental, like I was, and it's funny to see. She has cried at the loss of MY glasses, and at never knowing her great grandfather (that was kind of funny, actually, she realized that one and started crying while sitting on the potty - actually had me worried for a minute before she explained why the tears). She is endearing herself to everyone around her, and it's very neat to see.

I need to post things like this more often, for my own reflection, over time. With three, it's easy to blink and realize they're all a year older, and I MISSED something along the way. Thankfully, they don't let me do that, they're pretty good at demanding attention.

Bday girl!
